The method

How Stable to Stable matching works

Every horse and rider pairing is considered across the things that matter when finding the right match — from riding experience and confidence to temperament, ambitions, practical requirements and the type of arrangement you're looking for.

Rather than reducing compatibility to a single number, Stable to Stable helps you understand where a horse and rider align — and highlights important differences or potential conflicts that deserve a closer look.

Rider ability & experience

We compare the experience, confidence and capabilities a horse requires with the rider's own profile, including what they feel comfortable riding and handling.

Temperament & confidence

A horse's temperament, behaviour and way of going are considered alongside the rider's confidence, experience and preferences.

Discipline first

What you actually want to do with your horse matters. Your main discipline helps determine which horses are relevant to you, while other interests and ambitions help us understand the wider fit.

Requirements & dealbreakers

Some things aren't simply preferences. If a horse has a declared behaviour, characteristic or requirement that conflicts with something a rider has said they cannot accept, we'll highlight it clearly.

Practical fit

Budget, height, age, location, travel distance and other practical preferences help us identify whether a potential match is realistic as well as appealing.

Sale, loan & share compatibility

We also consider the type of arrangement each person is looking for — including sale, full loan, part loan/share and loan with view to buy — along with relevant practical requirements.

Important differences stay visible

A horse can look like a great match in many ways while still having one important point that needs careful consideration. Stable to Stable keeps those differences visible rather than allowing an overall result to hide them.

If something you've told us is particularly important doesn't align — such as a behaviour you wouldn't accept or a riding requirement that may not suit your experience — we'll flag it clearly so you can make your own informed decision.

The match is a starting point, not a verdict.

Stable to Stable helps you narrow the search and spot potential compatibility, but no algorithm can determine whether a horse and rider are right for one another.

Always view, ride, ask questions and carry out appropriate professional checks before making a decision.
